Unions reject the objection driven by Association turf war

UNIONS have dismissed the opposition claims that the attack of trade union leader Paul Howes on mining giant Rio Tinto has been directed by an association turf war between rival syndicates.

Opposition in workplace relations spokesman Eric Abetz said the attack by Mr Howes was about her marriage, the Australian workers Union, trying to "muscle" in workplaces represented by the Union energy and construction forestry mining.

Mr Howes, National Secretary of UTA, aluminium is target of Rio de Janeiro, operations, alleging that the remuneration and the conditions in factories company in Tasmania and Queensland were 30 to 50 percent less unionized employees aluminum of workplaces.

But Tony Maher, the National President of CFMEU's mining Division, said that his Union was working cooperatively with Uta for several years.

"We didn't have a blue since Paul was Secretary," Mr Maher said yesterday.

"Paul's recruitment strategy is directing the aluminum industry. He'll have nothing to do with iron ore. Even if it were, it would be a turf war.

"We're pretty relaxed about they have to go. Eric Abetz doesn't know what he's talking about. "

Mr Maher attended the National Conference of UTA, on the Gold Coast last week.

Mr Howes, said last week that there were no divisions between the unions.

"In the past, we had demarcations, but now we work together to organize," he said.
