"We saw earlier after Victoria fires and fire ACT, a demand for a lot of construction work and this reconstruction process will undoubtedly generate jobs, particularly in the areas of construction.

"Obviously there will be changes in the pattern of employment in Queensland."

Mr Evans said unemployment in Queensland was slightly higher than the national average, but was primarily due to increased immigration into the State.

He said General employment numbers across Australia had been very positive, with the Office of statistics, reports that the unemployment rate fell from 5. 2 per cent in November to five per cent in December.

"This is a great result for Australia ... is another sign of increased economic activity, the strength of the economy, and this is a very good result for those who are looking for work," he said.

"We now have a record number of Australians at work and we have very strong growth during the year."

r Evans said the numbers were strong support from the federal Government stimulus package, with Australia's unemployment rate, around half that similar countries including the United States and United Kingdom.

"These are the numbers better than we were two years ago," he said.

In the past 12 months, 364000 jobs had been created, of which 80 percent were full-time jobs, Mr Evans said.

He said that there was now a record Australian 11,417,400 employees.
